The Archaeological Museum of the Larnaka District opens its gates to the public, after the completion of the renovation works. The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Yiannis Karousos, said that this day significant not just for the District of Larnaka but also for the island’s culture heritage.
The museum is comprised of two renovated wings in which archaeological treasures are exhibited. The exhibits have a central role enabling the visitors to enjoy an archaeological and historical route of the District of Larnaka. The main goal of the renovation works was to create a modern upgraded Museum with contemporary infrastructure and services, offering visitors a unique experience.

The Museum’s exhibition is renewed, including archaeological treasures of the latest excavations in Larnaka District, testifying the dynamism of the settlements that were established and flourished from the Neolithic to historical times. The need for a modern and museographical exhibition, a new design, was imperative in order to enable the narration of stories of the populations of Larnaka during ancient times through a simple and direct way.

The archaeological exhibits are now enriched with texts based on scientific background, as this derives from the archaeological research, methods and techniques. The texts are formatted in a simple language, with photographs, illustrations, maps and digital visual material. The visitor follows a chronological narrative, in which the objects are presented in thematic sections, such as daily life, personal adornment, administration, art and crafts.
A special opening ceremony took place at the Museum, during which the Minister of Transport, Communications, Works Mr. Giannis Karousos spoke to the press, highlighting the importance of this day for the town of Larnaka but also for the island’s cultural heritage. In his welcome, the Minister Mr. Giannis Karousos expressed his great satisfaction with the result of the work done at the Museum, thanking the head of the Antiquities Department as well as the Museums’ curator and all people who worked for the museum.
The Minister referred to the political will of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, in investing in the field of Culture, with projects and policies that ”highlight our pride four our cultural wealth and our history “.

According to the Minister, completing another cultural project, which had been announced by the President of the Republic and became a reality, “the Government shows in practice its intention to strengthen the sector, to promote and highlight the wealth of our country.”
The event was held in the presence of MPs from the Larnaca District, the Mayor of Larnaca, the Presidents of ETAP and other bodies of the District. A museum tour was given to the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works and to the people present.
