Cypriot Antiquity Repatriated

Back to its homeland, another Cypriot Antiquitity marking another important step in the ongoing effort to protect and recover the island’s cultural heritage. The Department of Antiquities of the Deputy Ministry of Culture has announced the successful repatriation of a Cypriot antiquity from the United Kingdom.

The antiquity is a Stemmed bowl (kylix) of Bichrome Ware, dating to the Cypro‑Geometric III (900–750 BC) / Cypro‑Archaic I (750–600 BC) period and a pair of opposed loop handles. It is decorated with encircling bands of black horizontal lines on the interior and exterior.

The antiquity was identified in an online auction  by Archaeological Officers of the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus responsible for monitoring the illegal trafficking of Cypriot antiquities on the internet and was withdrawn following consultation with the auction house. The kylix as formally handed over to the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in London on 4 February 2026.
