On Saturday, 7 February 2026, the Department of Antiquities of the Deputy Ministry of Culture hosted a special event at the Cyprus Museum, marking Cyprus’s assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The permanent collection of the Cyprus Museum has been enhanced with the addition of significant finds from archaeological research conducted through the years, as well as antiquities that have been repatriated to Cyprus in recent years. The exhibition has also been enhanced with texts and other graphics, the exhibition lighting has been improved, and the existing display cases have been upgraded. As such, the visitor experience at the island’s most important archaeological museum has been substantially enhanced. The event was followed by guided tours in Greek and in English.

The event opened with a presentation of the comprehensive upgrade of the the Museum’s permanent exhibition, with speakers including Dr Vasiliki Kassianidou, Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr Giorgos Georgiou, Director of the Department of Antiquities and Ms Eftychia Zachariou, Curator of Antiquities.
