Dating back to medieval times, Panagia Katholiki was the main church of the people of Kouklia (Palaepaphos) at that time. The Church and the Lusignian Manor House are the oldest medieval structures of the ancient city.
The Church of Panagia Katholiki is situated just next to the famous Sanctuary of Aphrodite in Palaepaphos. It was constructed during the 12th-13th century AD, following the architectural type of a cruciform church. The west part of the church was added during the 16th c. In its interior, the church is decorated with wall-painting dating to the 15th century, representing the traditional byzantine art of the time.
