A Cypriot artifact dating to the Cypro‑Geometric III period has been successfully repatriated from France, the Department of Antiquities announced on 31 December 2025. The antiquity had been identified in an online auction by Archaeological Officers of the Department of Antiquities responsible for monitoring the illegal trafficking of Cypriot antiquities on the internet and was withdrawn following consultation with the auction house.
According to the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the object—a Stemmed bowl (kylix) of Bichrome III ware of the Cypro-Geometric III period (900-750 B.C.) was formally handed over to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Paris on 19 December 2025. The vessel features opposed loop handles and black-painted decoration, including groups of vertical line motifs framing a central swastika on each side, as well as banded interior decoration.
The Department of Antiquities expressed their gratitude to Nabécor Enchères and the donors for their voluntary return of the antiquity to its country of origin, as well as to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Paris for their cooperation and the coordination of the repatriation procedures.
